Eprothom Aloইয়াবা বড়ি কারবারিদের আত্মসমর্পণের পর এলাকার মানুষ ধারণা করেছিলেন, এই অপরাধী চক্রের নেটওয়ার্ক ভেঙে যাবে। বন্ধ হবে ইয়াবা আসাও। কিন্তু সে আশার গুড়ে বালি। আত্মসমর্পণের দিন থেকে গতকাল পর্যন্ত প্রতিদিনই ভয়ংকর মাদক ইয়াবা ধরা পড়ছে।
পুলিশ ও এলাকাবাসী সূত্রে জানা গেছে, কক্সবাজার জেলায় পুলিশের তালিকাভুক্ত ইয়াবা ব্যবসায়ীর সংখ্যা ১ হাজার ১৫১। কিন্তু তালিকার বাইরে আরও হাজারখানেক ইয়াবা কারবারি চক্র সক্রিয় আছে। তাদের রসদ জোগাচ্ছেন গডফাদাররা। এই চক্রের কেউ আত্মসমর্পণ করেননি। ফলে ইয়াবা ব্যবসা বন্ধ হওয়ার কোনো সুযোগ নেই।
এ বিষয়ে জানতে চাইলে কক্সবাজার জেলার পুলিশ সুপার এ বি এম মাসুদ হোসেন প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, যাঁরা আত্মসমর্পণ করেননি, তাঁদের পরিণতি হবে ভয়াবহ। তাঁদের ধরতে শিগগিরই সাঁড়াশি অভিযান শুরু হবে।
আইনশৃঙ্খলা রক্ষাকারী বাহিনীর জোরদার অভিযান ও ‘বন্দুকযুদ্ধে’র কারণে ১০২ ইয়াবা কারবারি ১৬ ফেব্রুয়ারি টেকনাফ পাইলট উচ্চবিদ্যালয়ের মাঠে অস্ত্র, ইয়াবাসহ আত্মসমর্পণ করেন। আত্মসমর্পণের পর তাঁদের কারাগারে পাঠানো হয়। তাঁরা এখন কক্সবাজার জেলে আছেন।
খোঁজ নিয়ে দেখা গেছে, পুলিশের তালিকাভুক্ত ১ হাজার ১৫১ ইয়াবা ব্যবসায়ীর মধ্যে ব্যবসা নিয়ন্ত্রণকারী বা গডফাদার আছেন ৭৩ জন। গডফাদারদের মধ্যে আত্মসমর্পণ করেছেন ৩০ জন। ৪৩ জন এখনো ধরাছোঁয়ার বাইরে আছেন।
গত বছরের ৪ মে থেকে দেশজুড়ে মাদকবিরোধী অভিযানে বন্দুকযুদ্ধে শুধু কক্সবাজারেই ৫৩ জনের মৃত্যু হয়। তারপরও গডফাদার ছাড়া শুধু তালিকাভুক্ত অধরা ব্যবসায়ীই আছেন এক হাজারের মতো। এই তালিকার বাইরে নতুন অনেক ব্যবসায়ী তৈরি হয়েছেন, যাঁরা গোপনে ইয়াবা কারবার চালিয়ে যাচ্ছেন।
গডফাদাররা এলাকায়
টেকনাফে যেদিন ইয়াবা কারবারিরা পুলিশের কাছে আত্মসমর্পণ করেন, সেদিনই জেলার তিনটি স্থান থেকে ৫ লাখ ৬০ হাজার ইয়াবা উদ্ধার করা হয়। এরপর গতকাল সোমবার ভোররাতে টেকনাফের নাজিরপাড়া এলাকা থেকে বিজিবি ২০ হাজার ইয়াবা উদ্ধার করে। এর আগের দিন শনিবার র্যাব উদ্ধার করে ৪০ হাজার ইয়াবা। তার আগের দিন শুক্রবার রামুর পাহাড় থেকে উদ্ধার হয় ৪ লাখ ৪০ হাজার এবং সমুদ্রের নৌকা থেকে পাওয়া যায় ১ লাখ ইয়াবা। এলাকার বাসিন্দারা বলছেন, যেসব গডফাদার বাইরে আছেন, তাঁরাই ইয়াবা চোরাচালান নিয়ন্ত্রণ করছেন।
অনুসন্ধানে জানা গেছে, স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের তালিকার ১ নম্বরে ছিলেন সাবেক সাংসদ আবদুর রহমান বদি। তাঁর পরিবারের ১২ সদস্য আত্মসমর্পণ করলেও তিনি নিজে অনুষ্ঠানের ধারেকাছে আসেননি। তাঁর এই অনুপস্থিতি নিয়ে এলাকার মানুষের মধ্যে তীব্র ক্ষোভ রয়েছে। লোকজন বলছেন, ইয়াবার অপবাদ থেকে নিজেকে রক্ষা করতে অন্যদের আত্মসমর্পণের দিকে ঠেলে দিয়েছেন বদি। অথচ তালিকায় থাকা বদির আপন ভাই মৌলভি মজিবুর রহমান আত্মসমর্পণ করেননি। মজিবুর এলাকায় বদির পরে দ্বিতীয় গডফাদার বলে চিহ্নিত।
স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের তালিকার ২ নম্বরে থাকা সাইফুল করিম দীর্ঘ সময় ধরে দেশের বাইরে। তালিকার ৬ নম্বরে টেকনাফ উপজেলা পরিষদ চেয়ারম্যান জাফর আহমেদ, ৯ ও ১০ নম্বরে আছেন তাঁর দুই ছেলে শাহজাহান মিয়া (টেকনাফ সদর ইউপি চেয়ারম্যান) ও ইলিয়াছ মিয়া। ২৬ নম্বরে টেকনাফ উপজেলা পরিষদের ভাইস চেয়ারম্যান মৌলভি রফিক উদ্দিন, ২৫ নম্বরে বাহারছড়া ইউপি চেয়ারম্যান মৌলভি আজিজ উদ্দিন, ৩৯ নম্বরে আছেন জাফর আলম। নানা কৌশলে তাঁরা ইয়াবা ব্যবসা চালিয়ে যাচ্ছেন বলে অভিযোগ রয়েছে।
ইয়াবা কারবারে রাজনৈতিক দলের নেতা-কর্মী
টেকনাফের বাসিন্দারা জানান, রাজনৈতিক দলের অনেক নেতা-কর্মী আছেন, যাঁদের নাম তালিকায় আছে। কিন্তু এই অভিযানে তাঁদের গায়ে হাত পড়েনি। আবার তাঁরা আত্মসমর্পণও করেননি। রাজনৈতিক পরিচিতি থাকার সুবাদে তাঁরা দাপিয়ে বেড়াচ্ছেন। এতে যেমন ক্ষমতাসীন দল আওয়ামী লীগ আছে, তেমনি বিএনপি–জামায়াতের নেতা-কর্মীও আছেন।
তালিকাভুক্ত আওয়ামী লীগ নেতা-কর্মীদের উল্লেখ্যযোগ্য হলেন টেকনাফ পৌরসভা আওয়ামী লীগের সভাপতি জাবেদ ইকবাল, উপজেলা আওয়ামী লীগের সাংগঠনিক সম্পাদক এজাহার মিয়া, পৌর যুবলীগের সাবেক সভাপতি মনজুরুল করিম সোহাগ, পৌরসভার ৬ নম্বর ওয়ার্ড আওয়ামী লীগের সাধারণ সম্পাদক জাহাঙ্গীর আলম, পৌর যুবলীগের যুগ্ম আহ্বায়ক ও ৪ নম্বর ওয়ার্ডের কাউন্সিলর হোসেন আহমদ, উপজেলা আওয়ামী লীগের তথ্য ও প্রকাশনা সম্পাদক নজির আহমদ সীমান্ত, টেকনাফ সদর যুবলীগের সাবেক যুগ্ম আহ্বায়ক আবদুল কাদের, সাবরাং ইউনিয়ন যুবলীগের সাধারণ সম্পাদক নুরুল আলম, উপজেলা ছাত্রলীগের সাংগঠনিক সম্পাদক সাবের খান, উপজেলা যুবলীগের যুগ্ম সম্পাদক গিয়াস উদ্দিন, সাবেক কাউন্সিলর ফরিদ আহমদসহ আরও অনেকে। তাঁরা আত্মসমর্পণ করেননি।
একইভাবে উপজেলা বিএনপির সভাপতি জাফর আলম, উপজেলা বিএনপির সাংগঠনিক সম্পাদক রাশেদুল করিম মার্কিন, জেলা বিএনপির সদস্য ও টেকনাফ পৌরসভার ১ নম্বর ওয়ার্ডের কাউন্সিলর শাহ আলম, পৌর বিএনপির সাধারণ সম্পাদক রেজাউর রহমান, উপজেলা বিএনপির সহসভাপতি হাশেম মেম্বার, উপজেলা ছাত্রদলের সাবেক সভাপতি জাহেদুল ইসলাম মাহমুদ, পৌর যুবদলের আহ্বায়ক আবদুল্লাহ, পৌর যুবদলের যুগ্ম আহ্বায়ক বাচা মিয়া, জেলা ছাত্রদলের সহসভাপতি আবদুল্লাহ আল মামুন প্রমুখ। জামায়াত নেতা ও টেকনাফ পৌরসভার সাবেক প্যানেল মেয়র মো. ইসমাইলের নামও তালিকায় আছে।
তালিকাভুক্ত এসব নেতা-কর্মীর বিরুদ্ধে ব্যবস্থা না নিলে ইয়াবা বন্ধ হবে কীভাবে, জানতে চাইলে টেকনাফ মডেল থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) প্রদীপ কুমার দাশ প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, ইয়াবা ও হুন্ডিতে জড়িত থাকা ৩৭০ জনের একটি তালিকা করেছে পুলিশ। তাঁদের আইনের আওতায় আনা হবে। কাউকে ছাড় দেওয়া হবে না।
তবে টেকনাফ ২ বিজিবির অধিনায়ক লে. কর্নেল আছাদুদজামান চৌধুরী প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, শুধু আইন প্রয়োগ করে ইয়াবা বন্ধ করা যাবে না। এ জন্য এলাকাবাসীরও সহযোগিতা লাগবে।
সুশাসনের জন্য নাগরিক (সুজন) টেকনাফ শাখার সভাপতি আবুল হোসেন বলেন, যাঁরা আত্মসমর্পণ করেছেন, তাঁদের নেটওয়ার্ক ও সিন্ডিকেট সদস্যরা এলাকায় রয়ে গেছেন। তাঁদের অনেকের নাম তালিকাতেও নেই। এ অবস্থায় ইয়াবা বন্ধ হবে এমন আশা করাটা ভুল।
কক্সবাজার চেম্বারের সভাপতি আবু মোর্শেদ চৌধুরী বলেন, ঘটা করে আত্মসমর্পণের অনুষ্ঠান করা হলেও ইয়াবা ব্যবসায়ীদের টনক নড়েনি। মানুষ দেখতে চায়, গডফাদারদের কিছু হোক। তাঁদের কিছু না হলে ইয়াবা ব্যবসা চলতেই থাকবে।ই

পিরোজপুরের ইন্দুরকানি উপজেলায় আদালতের নির্দেশে মৃত্যুর ১০ মাস পর কবর থেকে এক কলেজছাত্রের লাশ উত্তোলন করেছে পুলিশ। উপজেলার নলবুনিয়া গ্রাম থেকে গতকাল সোমবার বিকেলে তার লাশ তোলা হয়।
জেলা প্রশাসক কার্যালয়ের নির্বাহী হাকিম ফখরুল ইসলামের উপস্থিতিতে লাশ তুলে তা ময়নাতদন্তের জন্য পিরোজপুর সদর হাসপাতাল মর্গে পাঠানো হয়েছে। নিহত কলেজছাত্রের নাম সাইফুর রহমান (১৭)। সে উপজেলার নলবুনিয়া গ্রামের জাহাঙ্গীর মোল্লার ছেলে। সাইফুর উপজেলার পাড়েরহাট রাজলক্ষ্মী স্কুল অ্যান্ড কলেজের দ্বাদশ শ্রেণিতে পড়ত।
পুলিশ, মামলা ও পারিবারিক সূত্রে জানা গেছে, ২০১৭ সালের ১০ আগস্ট রাতে পিরোজপুর সদর উপজেলার দক্ষিণ শংকরপাশা গ্রামের আসলাম খলিফা খুন হন। ওই মামলার আসামি ছিলেন সাইফুরের বাবা জাহাঙ্গীর মোল্লা। ঘটনার পর জাহাঙ্গীর বাড়ি থেকে পালিয়ে যান। এরপর আসলাম খলিফার লোকজন সাইফুরকে মারধর করেন। এতে সাইফুর রহমান গ্রাম ছেড়ে ঢাকার সাভারের আশুলিয়ায় চলে যায়।
২০১৮ সালের ৭ এপ্রিল সকালে আশুলিয়ার মৌজার বাসস্ট্যান্ড এলাকায় সাইফুরকে নিহত আসলামের বড় ভাই কাওসার হোসেন খলিফাসহ ১০ থেকে ১২ জন লোক মারধর করেন। এরপর সাইফুর দৌড়ে পালতে গিয়ে বাসের নিচে পড়ে নিহত হয়। পরিবারের লোকজন সাইফুরের লাশ গ্রামের বাড়িতে নিয়ে দাফন করেন। গত ৩১ মে সাইফুরের মা ফিরোজা বেগম বাদী হয়ে ঢাকা জ্যেষ্ঠ বিচারিক হাকিম আদালতে মামলা করেন। মামলায় নলবুনিয়া গ্রামের উজ্জ্বল আকনকে প্রধান আসামি করে কাওসার হোসেন খলিফাসহ ১০ জনের বিরুদ্ধে অভিযোগ করা হয়। আদালত মামলার আরজি এফআইআর করার জন্য সাভারের আশুলিয়া থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তাকে নির্দেশ দেন। গত ৩ জানুয়ারি আদালত সাইফুরের লাশ কবর থেকে তুলে ময়নাতদন্তের নির্দেশ দেন।
মামলার তদন্ত কর্মকর্তা আশুলিয়া থানার উপপরিদর্শক (এসআই) মো. এমদাদুল হক বলেন, নির্বাহী হাকিমের উপস্থিতিতে লাশ কবর থেকে উত্তোলন করে ময়নাতদন্তের জন্য মর্গে পাঠানো হয়েছে।
ফিরোজা বেগম বলেন, কাওসার হোসেন খলিফা পুলিশের সহকারী উপপরিদর্শক। তিনি নানাভাবে তাঁদের হয়রানি করছেন। গতকাল সোমবার বিকেলে লাশ উত্তোলনের সময় এক যুবক তাঁর বোনের ওপর হামলা করেন।
নির্বাহী হাকিম ফখরুল ইসলাম বলেন, ওই যুবককে আটকের পর তিনি পুলিশের কাছে মুচলেকা দিয়ে ছাড়া পান।

মোনাজাতের আগে বাদ ফজর ভারতের হাফেজ ইকবাল হাসিব নায়ের উর্দুতে বয়ান করেন। তাঁর বয়ান বাংলায় তরজমা করেন ওসামা বিন ওয়াসিব। মোনাজাতের আগে হেদায়েতি বয়ান করবেন ভারতের মাওলানা শামীম।
আখেরি মোনাজাতে অংশ নিতে ফজরের নামাজের আগে থেকেই মুসল্লিরা টঙ্গীর ইজতেমা ময়দানের দিকে যেতে শুরু করেন। ভোররাত থেকেই ঢাকা-ময়মনসিংহ মহাসড়কের ভোগড়া এলাকা বন্ধ করে দেওয়া হয়। এ ছাড়া আব্দুল্লাহপুর-আশুলিয়া সড়কেও যানচলাচল বন্ধ করে দেওয়া হয়।
ইজতেমাকে কেন্দ্র করে সম্প্রতি কাকরাইল মসজিদের ইমাম মাওলানা জোবায়ের এবং দিল্লির মাওলানা সা’দপন্থীদের দুই পক্ষের মধ্যে সংঘর্ষ হয়। এরপর ইজতেমার দায়িত্ব নেয় সরকার। ইজতেমা শুরুতে স্থগিত করা হয়। পরে স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়, ধর্ম মন্ত্রণালয় বিবদমান দুটি পক্ষকে নিয়ে ঢাকায় সভা করে। ওই সময় সরকারের সিদ্ধান্ত মেনে নিয়ে দুই পক্ষ বিশ্ব ইজতেমা করতে রাজি হয়। পরে ধর্ম মন্ত্রণালয় থেকে মাওলানা জোবায়ের পক্ষকে ১৫ ও ১৬ ফেব্রুয়ারি এবং সা’দপন্থীদের ১৭ ও ১৮ ফেব্রুয়ারি দিন নির্ধারণ করে দেওয়া হয়। সা’দপন্থীদের আবেদনের প্রেক্ষিতে ১৯ ফেব্রুয়ারি সকাল ১০টায় আখেরি মোনাজাত পরিচালনার সময় নির্ধারণ করে দেওয়া হয়।
গাজীপুর জেলা প্রশাসক দেওয়ান মুহাম্মদ হুমায়ূন কবীর বলেন, আজ সকাল ১০টা থেকে বেলা ১১টার মধ্যে আখেরি মোনাজাত অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। মোনাজাতের মধ্য দিয়ে দুই পক্ষের এবারের বিশ্ব ইজতেমা শেষ হবে।

All nine Cooperstown players scored and the Hawkeye defense allowed just five field goals as second-seeded Coop dispatched No. 15 Thousand Islands, 71-20, in the second round of the Section III Class C boys basketball tournament.
The Hawkeyes ouscored TI, 20-9, in the first quarter, in what proved to be the most productive offensive quarter for the Vikings.
"They came out in a box-and-one on Jack (Lambert), and we were ready for that. It took 90 seconds for the rest of the guys to figure it out," Cooperstown coach John Lambert said. "Defensively we jumped on them right away, great help defense and great team defense."
An 18-5 run in the second quarter made the deficit 38-14 at halftime before the Hawkeyes did not allow TI a point in the third quarter.
Jack Lambert finished with 16 points on six field goals to lead all scorers, recording a double-double with 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals. Calvin Sandler also reached double digits, hitting two 3-pointers to total 12 points.
Spencer Lewis and Ryan Lansing each had nine, while John Kennedy and Noah Lifgren scored eight each.
Joey Melfi scored eight points to lead Thousand Islands.
"I was really proud of the defense," coach Lambert said. "Defense is a lot of hard work and they really dug deep and played well defensively."
Cooperstown hosts No. 7 Oriskany in the quarterfinals at a date and time yet to be determined.
Unadilla Valley 42, Delhi 39
Unadilla Valley used balanced scoring and tough defense to defeat Delhi and win the Midstate Athletic Conference championship.
UV had even scoring throughout each quarter, whereas Delhi ended strong with a 15-point fourth quarter.
“It was a low-scoring defensive battle,” UV coach Matt Osborne said. “In the second half we got into foul trouble and allowed them to get open shots.”
Levi Rifanburg earned a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds, leading UV in both categories.
“Levi did a good job on the glass with rebounds and taking the ball to the basket to force fouls,” Osborne said.
Andrew Jackson scored nine points with nine rebounds, Caleb Parker had seven points and Cameron Osborne had six.
Alex Haight and Connor Aikens combined to score more than three-quarters of Delhi's points. Haight led the Bulldogs with 16 points and Aikens had 15.
UV (14-5) enters the Section IV Class C tournament as the fourth seed. It hosts No. 13 Sidney (8-8) on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
No. 5 Delhi (14-5) hosts No. 12 Union Springs, also on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Oneonta 57, Marathon 34
Teddy McGraw scored 11 of his 17 points in the first half to power Oneonta past Marathon.
The Yellowjackets outscored Marathon, 20-10, in the second quarter to take a 12-point lead into halftime. The Oneonta defense held Marathon to single digits in both periods of the second half to pull away.
McGraw made eight field goals to total his game-high 17 points. He was the only Oneonta to reach double digits as 10 Yellowjackets recorded points.
Graham Wooden finished with nine, while Khi Atchinson and Alex Osterhoudt had seven each for the hosts.
Diego Castellot paced Marathon with 12.
Oneonta (14-5), seeded third in the upcoming Section IV Class B tournament, opens its section run by hosting No. 6 Chenango Valley on February 23 at 6 p.m.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Cooperstown 61, Mount Markham 40
Kate Trosset scored 21 points to lead fourth-seeded Cooperstown past No. 13 Mount Markham in the second round of the Section III Class C tournament.
The Hawkeyes took control early by outscoring the Mustangs, 19-8, in the first quarter. At halftime, the lead was 32-16.
Trosset went 7-for-7 at the foul line to lead all scorers with her 21. Emilie Perez scored 15 points, Piper Seamon had nine and Meagan Schuermann contributed seven for the Hawkeyes.
Hayleigh Gates scored 16 points to lead Mount Markham. Hanna Gigliotti scored eight, while both Olivia Ostrander and Allison Sterling scored six.
Cooperstown (16-5) hosts No. 5 Onondaga (16-5) in the quarterfinals. Date and time are yet to be announced.
SWIMMING
SECTION III CHAMPIONSHIPS
Maddox Aramini won three gold medals and Gareth Austin earned one to lead Cooperstown at the Section III Class C swim championships at Nottingham High School.
All 12 competitors on the Cooperstown roster qualified for section competition, and the sophomore duo led the Hawkeyes to a third-place finish with 319 points, 107 behind winners Weedsports (426).
"We said we were gonna set our sights on the end of the year," Cooperstown coach Cheryl Rock said. "It's been the whole team. I've never in my 14 years had everybody make the sectional cut."
Aramini got his first title of the day in the 200-yard individual medley, breaking his own Section III Class C meet record, set last year, with a time of 2:05.48. His time was more than a second faster than the previous record, 2:06.93, and more than 10 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Aidan Wolf of Lowville (2:16.07).
Aramini returned to the top of the podium in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 57.66 to win by more than two seconds. Sherburne-Earlville senior Mathew Ryan took second in 1:00.13.
The Cooperstown sophomore earned his third win of the meet in the 200-yard freestyle relay, swimming the anchor leg behind Ewan Chapman, Will Friedman and Max Hinrichs. The team finished in 1:36.29, beating out Weedsport in second place (1:37.65).
Austin, also a sophomore, rounded out the Cooperstown winners in the meet's penultimate race, finishing the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.97 to win by more than three seconds.
He also reached the podium in the 200-yard IM, backing up Aramini's first-place performance with a time of 2:17.32 to finish third.
Both Aramini and Austin, as well as other Cooperstown teammates, have the opportunity to qualify for the state meet during the state qualifiers on Saturday.
"It's really hard to make states as a sophomore and they will have to cut a lot of time," Rock said. "But they have two more years. To do so well as sophomores is really something."
The Hawkeyes put together eight other top-eight performances, led by Hinrichs' third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.22). Hinrichs also took sixth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.88.
Like Hinrichs, Chapman added to his win in the 200 relay with a fourth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (24.31). He was followed in the event by Will Friedman's seventh-place finish in 25.06.
The same duo placed in the 100-yard freestyle, with Chapman taking fifth in 54.88 and Friedman touching seventh in 55.58.
Michael Rudloff beat his seed time by more than two seconds to take seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The Hawkeyes have 10 opportunities to compete for a state berth on Saturday, entering teams in the 200 medley relay, the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
Aramini competes in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, while Austin competes in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. Hinrichs owns a spot in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, while Chapman competes in the 50 freestyle.
"We only had twelve swimmers this year and to get into those spots with 12 guys is great. They worked really hard," Rock said. "The guys that make it into the finals are from the really big schools so to make it in there, to me it was just really amazing. We only have 12, but we have 12 really outstanding swimmers."
Action begins on Saturday at 1:15 p.m. at Nottingham High School.
SECTION IV CHAMPIONSHIPS
Robert Murray, Gabe House and Nate Kuhlmann all posted a pair of top-eight finishes to lead Oneonta in the preliminaries at the Section IV Class B swimming championships.
House qualified second in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 1:48.75, behind only Peyton Broderick of Chenango Valley (1:48.33). Kuhlmann touched in 1:59.01 to take eighth, also qualifying for the A final.
House also qualified for the A final in the 100-yard freestyle, qualifying third in 50:01.
Kuhlmann also recorded a third-palce qualification, recording a time of 5:28.16 in the 500-yard freestyle.
Murray's best finish came in the 100-yard backstroke, as his time of 1:01.03 was good for second. In the 200-yard individual medley, his time of 2:14.51 qualified fifth.
Yellowjacket teams will also compete in the 200 medley relay, the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
Ian House competes in the B final of the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke, wile Brandon Erario swims in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Jake Keough-Vilanti qualified for the B final of the 100 backstroke.
Competition begins on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Watkins Glen High School.

Sheriffs: Cuomo's bail proposal is misguided
The governor has included what he calls his 2019 Pre-trial Justice Reform Act as part of an agenda of reform legislation he wants to enact during the current legislative session.
While the New York Sheriffs' Association has not issued its final response to the plan, the group's associate counsel, Alex Wilson, told CNHI it has already identified several major areas of concern.
"One thing that has really raised the hackles of sheriff's in the governor's proposal is that it would require police officers to issue appearance tickets instead of effecting a a custodial arrest in certain circumstances," Wilson said. "That is a pretty serious curtailment of a police officer's discretion. They would be compelled to issue an appearance ticket for most misdemeanors."
If those individuals who get tickets rather than be brought to an arraignment immediately eventually fail to appear in court, it could strain the ability of police agencies to locate them, Wilson and others noted.
Cuomo's proposal was promoted at a Jan. 29 state budget hearing by Michael Green, commission of the governor's Division of Criminal Justice Services.
"The majority of people in New York’s jails are held because they cannot afford to post bail," Green advised lawmakers. "This current system is unfair to those who lack financial resources."
Green suggested the plan comes equipped with public safety safeguards, noting the proposal allows judges to hold a defendant in jail at the request of prosecutors in cases of domestic violence or another serious violent crime. Those who skip court appearances or commit another crime while on pretrial release could also be locked up, said Green, a former district attorney.
County prosecutors are also weighing in on the Cuomo proposal as well as one that has been advanced in both houses of the Legislature.
Albany County District Attorney David Soares, who heads the state's District Attorneys' Association, suggested to lawmakers that the proposals should be cautiously evaluated and not be included in the negotiations for the state budget, which is slated to be enacted by April 1.
"If we have a system that is releasing people who are accused of misdemeanor and other violations, we must have a system that includes drug and alcohol evaluation, services and followup," Soares said, adding there should also be money provided to cover extradition costs should accused individuals leave the state.
While agreeing that problems with the bail system are "worth examining," Soares took direct aim at a central argument of advocates for an end to cash bail for many offenses by stating that "only a small fraction of those charged with minor crimes or some major ones are being held in jails because of a failure to make bail.".
Cuomo made a similar proposal last year but it was bottled up in the state Senate. The upper house is now under Democratic control as a result of last November's "blue wave" election.
Opponents of the governor's proposal are expected to ratchet up the pressure on freshman Democrats from Long Island who have expressed more moderate views on criminal justice matters than their New York City counterparts who are allied with Cuomo on the issue.
Michelle Esquenazi, who heads the state Bail Bond Association and runs a bail firm in Brooklyn said her group would support some reforms if they ensured "accountability" in the criminal justice system, with the benefits being aimed at first-time offenders whose alleged offenses did not harm other individuals.
"I would never be O.K. with legislating out the judiciary," she said, contending that a system that affords judges discretion to jail a defendant due to public safety concerns best protects communities.
She argue that New Yorkers would be aghast at some of the offenses that, under Cuomo's proposal, would allow individuals to be ticketed, rather than have bail set at an arraignment.
"I don't think the people of the state of New York are aware that a misdemeanor could be someone having sex with a corpse," she said. "I don't think that the people are aware that a non-violent offense can be rape in the third degree."
Esquenazi said the debate is infused with major political ramifications.
"If the Democrats pass this, it will be the best gift they could ever give to the Republicans," she said. "They might as well wrap it up in a Tiffany box with a bow on it because it is going to blow up in their faces."

নেইমার যখন বার্সেলোনা ছেড়ে পিএসজিতে নাম লেখালেন, আশ্চর্য হননি এমন মানুষ খুঁজে পাওয়া যাবে না। রেকর্ড অঙ্কে সে দলবদল হয়ে যাওয়ার পর থেকেই ফুটবল দুনিয়া কেন যেন আবারও তাঁকে বার্সেলোনায় ফেরাতে ব্যাকুল। প্রায় প্রতিটি দলবদলের সময়ই নেইমারের ন্যু ক্যাম্পে ‘প্রত্যাবর্তন’ নিয়ে নানা ধরনের খবর শোনা যায়। কিন্তু এসব খবরের যে সত্যতা মোটেও নেই, সেটিই জানিয়েছে নেইমারের বাবা
ফরাসি সংবাদমাধ্যম ‘টেলিফুট’ কে দেওয়া এক সাক্ষাতকারে নেইমারের বাবা নেইমার ‘সিনিয়র’ এসব গুজব উড়িয়েই দিয়েছেন, ‘কথাগুলো একদম মিথ্যা। বার্সেলোনা থেকে আমার ছেলেকে কেউ ফোন দেয়নি, আমরাও তাদের সঙ্গে ফেরার জন্য কোনো যোগাযোগ করিনি।’

তাহলে কি নেইমার আর কখনই পিএসজি ছাড়বেন না? এ প্রশ্নের জবাবে আবার নেইমারের বাবা কোনো নির্দিষ্ট উত্তর দেননি, ‘ভবিষ্যতে কি হয় সেটা তো বলা যায় না। প্রতি মুহূর্তেই পরিস্থিতি বদলাতে পারে।’

ইমরানকে ২ হাজার কোটি ডলার দিচ্ছেন যুবরাজ সালমান
পাকিস্তান সফরে গিয়ে প্রথম দিনই দুই হাজার কোটি ডলারের বিনিয়োগ চুক্তিতে স্বাক্ষর করেছেন সৌদি যুবরাজ মোহাম্মদ বিন সালমান। গতকাল রোববার রাতে পাকিস্তান পৌঁছান সৌদি প্রিন্স, এরপর দুই দেশের মধ্যে ওই চুক্তি স্বাক্ষরিত হয়।এর আগে দুই দেশের মধ্যে ১ হাজার কোটি ডলারের বাণিজ্য ও বিনিয়োগ চুক্তি স্বাক্ষরিত হওয়ার কথা ছিল। তবে পাকিস্তান পৌঁছেই সিদ্ধান্ত পাল্টে ফেলেন যুবরাজ। এনডিটিভি অনলাইনের এক প্রতিবেদনে এ তথ্য জানানো হয়।

কারি সফরে পাকিস্তান গেছেন সৌদি যুবরাজ। ইমরান খান ক্ষমতা নেওয়ার পর পরই আর্থিক সংকট তীব্র হয়েছে পাকিস্তানের। সম্প্রতি ভারত নিয়ন্ত্রিত কাশ্মীরে জঙ্গি হামলার পর পাকিস্তানের দিকে অভিযোগের তীর ছুড়েছে ভারত। পাকিস্তানকে দেওয়া ‘মোস্ট ফেভারড নেশন’-এর (এমএফএন) মর্যাদা প্রত্যাহার করেছে ভারত। শুধু তা-ই নয়, পাকিস্তান থেকে আসা সব পণ্যের ওপর ২০০ শতাংশ শুল্ক আরোপ করেছে ভারত। এমন অবস্থায় সৌদি প্রিন্সের এই সফর অর্থনৈতিক সংকটে থাকা পাকিস্তানকে কিছুটা আলোর মুখ দেখাবে বলেই আশা করা যাচ্ছে।
চুক্তির আওতায় পাকিস্তানের বন্দর নগরী গোয়াদারে একটি তেল শোধনাগার তৈরি হবে। যাতে বিনিয়োগ করা হবে ৮০০ কোটি ডলার। বিবিসি অনলাইনের এক প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়, এ ছাড়া দুই দেশের মধ্যে বেশ কয়েকটি জ্বালানি, পেট্রোকেমিক্যাল ও খনি খাত সংক্রান্ত চুক্তি স্বাক্ষরিত হয়।
সৌদি প্রিন্স বলেন, ‘এটি দুই পক্ষের জন্য একটি বড় অধ্যায়। অবশ্যই এটি প্রতি মাসে এবং প্রতি বছর বৃদ্ধি পাবে। উভয় দেশের জন্য যা উপকারী হবে।’
বর্তমানে তারল্য সংকটে জর্জরিত পাকিস্তান। দেশটির কেন্দ্রীয় ব্যাংকে রিজার্ভের পরিমাণ মাত্র ৮ বিলিয়ন ডলার। এমন অবস্থায় এই চুক্তির মাধ্যমে সংকট উত্তরণে কিছুটা সমর্থ হবে পাকিস্তান এমনটাই আশা করছেন বিশ্লেষকেরা। গত বছরের আগস্টে পাকিস্তানের প্রধানমন্ত্রী হিসেবে দায়িত্ব নিয়েই ইমরান দেখেন রাজকোষ প্রায় শূন্য। বিদেশি সহায়তা পেতে মরিয়া ইমরান পাকিস্তানের বেশির ভাগ প্রধানমন্ত্রীর মতো তাঁর প্রথম বিদেশ সফর হিসেবে বেছে নেন সৌদি আরবকে। সৌদি আরবও তাঁকে নিরাশ করেনি। ৬০০ কোটি ডলারের সহায়তা প্যাকেজ দেয় ইমরানকে।
পাকিস্তানের পর ভারতে সফরেও যাবেন যুবরাজ। আগামী বুধবার ও বৃহস্পতিবার চীন সফরে যাওয়ার কথা আছে তাঁর।
